Blogging

I am such a sucker for the little things: a sweet note, a cappuccino made by a real barista, a cluster of tart cherries sharing a stem. When I remind myself that the smallest gestures are special, I have unlimited chances to be delighted. If something as simple as a stroll around the neighborhood or a $4 bouquet can make your day, it’s well worth indulging!

If you’re feeling lucky, your day might be made if you enter the giveaway the end of this post! Hint, hint. Keep reading to learn a few more things I love, too, because I did a short + sweet interview with Nicole below! That’s right…

Nicole hosts the #TreatYoSelfThursday link-up every week, and I love seeing what all her blogging friends bring together. It’s a great way to meet new bloggers and read things you normally wouldn’t. Today Jamie and I are co-hosting, so let’s get to it! Continue reading →

Why Treating Yourself Matters in a Blogging Career

When I first started blogging, I thought success meant grinding 24/7—publishing daily, commenting on every post, and saying yes to every collaboration. It took me a while (and more than a few late-night meltdowns) to realize that a career built on hustle alone isn't sustainable. The truth is, treating yourself isn't just a luxury; it's a necessary part of showing up well for your readers, your partners, and yourself. A little joy can recharge your creative batteries and remind you why you started this journey in the first place.

In the blogging world, we often talk about career growth in terms of numbers—pageviews, followers, income. But what about the emotional side? Burnout is real, and it can sneak up on you when you least expect it. Taking time to savor the little things, like a fresh cup of coffee or a walk outdoors, can keep you grounded and prevent that overwhelm. If you're new to blogging, I highly recommend reading So You Want to Be a Blogger for a realistic look at what this path involves.

So here's my challenge to you: this week, intentionally treat yourself to something small every day. It doesn't have to cost a thing—maybe it's five minutes of quiet time, a chat with a friend, or a chapter of a book. Pay attention to how that simple act shifts your mindset. You might find that the more you prioritize joy, the more inspired you feel to create.

An Interview with Nicole: The Brains Behind #TreatYoSelfThursday

I'm so excited to share this short + sweet interview with Nicole! She's the lovely host of #TreatYoSelfThursday, and she graciously agreed to answer a few questions about self-care, blogging, and the link-up. You can find her original post and all the details on her blog, but here's a little taste of our conversation.

Jaybird: What inspired you to start #TreatYoSelfThursday?

Nicole: I noticed that many of us in the blogging community were constantly pushing ourselves without pausing to celebrate the small wins. I wanted to create a space where we could intentionally share the little things that make us happy—whether it's a new lipstick, a great book, or simply a quiet moment. Treating yourself shouldn't be an afterthought; it should be a regular practice.

Jaybird: How do you balance blogging with self-care?

Nicole: Honestly, it's a work in progress! I've learned to set boundaries—like not checking emails after 8pm and taking one full day off from social media each week. I also try to schedule in "me time" just like I would a blog post deadline. It's all about being intentional.

Jaybird: What do you hope bloggers gain from participating in the link-up?

Nicole: Community and connection. Blogging can feel lonely sometimes, but when you share your little joys and read about others', you realize you're not alone. Plus, the link-up is a wonderful way to discover new blogs and make friends who get what this crazy, wonderful journey is all about.

How to Join the Link-Up & Meet New Bloggers

If you're new to link-ups, don't worry—it's easy and fun! #TreatYoSelfThursday is open to everyone, whether you're a seasoned blogger or just starting out. Here's how it works:

  • Write a post about something you did to treat yourself this week. It can be big or small, practical or whimsical—whatever brings you joy.
  • Include a link back to the host's post (that's Nicole's blog, and today Jamie and I are co-hosting, so you can link to either of us).
  • Add your post's URL to the link-up tool at the bottom of this page.
  • Visit at least two or three other posts from the link-up and leave a thoughtful comment. The whole point is to connect!

One of my favorite parts of co-hosting is reading all the creative ways people treat themselves. From baking bread to taking a bubble bath, the ideas are endless and always inspiring. If you're looking for more community-oriented posts, check out the Guest category for contributions from other bloggers.

My Favorite Little Things (and a Giveaway!)

Since we're celebrating the little things, I thought I'd share a few more that make my heart happy. Maybe they'll inspire your own #TreatYoSelfThursday post:

  • A new notebook with smooth, thick pages—perfect for lists and doodles.
  • A handwritten letter from a friend (the old-fashioned kind that shows up in your mailbox).
  • A freshly brewed cup of tea in my favorite mug, especially on a rainy afternoon.
  • A 10-minute dance break in my living room, because why not?
  • A beautiful sunrise, witnessed before the world wakes up.

And now, for the part you've been waiting for: the giveaway! I've put together a little package of things I love—a cozy candle, a pretty mug, and a $15 gift card to a popular coffee chain. (Because what's a treat without caffeine?) To enter, simply leave a comment below telling me one small thing you did to treat yourself this week. For an extra entry, join the link-up and mention that you did in your comment. The winner will be chosen randomly and announced next Thursday. Good luck!

The Bigger Picture: Blogging, Career, and Joy

I hope this post has reminded you that a successful blogging career isn't just about metrics and monetization. It's about building a life you love, one small joy at a time. If you're wrestling with bigger questions about sponsorships, advertising, or how to grow your platform without losing yourself, I've written a few posts that might help. Check out On Advertising, Blogging & Questions to Ask Yourself and Blog Love: Bound + Questions for You About Sponsorship. And if you're curious about working with brands, the Sponsor page has more details.

Remember, treating yourself is not selfish; it's strategic. When you fill your own cup, you have more to pour into your blog, your readers, and your career. So go on—indulge in that cappuccino, buy the $4 bouquet, and enter our giveaway. You deserve it.
